"Back To School" Craft Night

In celebration of a brand new school year I have come up with a special craft night! The project I have chosen to teach is a fabric binder cover. This is a fun and practical project to learn to make. The cost of the class is $10, which includes the cost of the class as well as the fabric and binder.

This is a similar idea as what I hosted last winter, for the Christmas craft night. The  class will be separate from my other summer camp lessons and everyone in the class will be making the same thing. Students will have their own choice of fabric.

As always, there will be a maximum of four students in the class. The first session will be Wednesday August 14th from 7-8pm. (If I have more of a demand for the class and it becomes full quickly, I will add another session at a later date).

If interested please let me know ASAP so I can determine how many sessions I will need to have. quilters.workshop@gmail.com

Hope to see everyone soon! :)

Arts and Crafts Sale = SUCCESS

Yesterday I was part of the Arts and Crafts sale held in Picton ON.

The show was definitely a success and even the rain couldn't bring us down! Definitely looking forward to doing this show again next year.

My Aunt and Uncle who live in Kingston came to the show to visit and surprise me :)
What dedicated fans I have!

Summer sewing camps are going well! While many of the classes are booked I do have limited spaces available for the remainder of August. If you are interested in getting information for summer camps or are interested in fall classes, feel free to E-mail me at quilters.workshop@gmail.com

St. Jacob's Market - Kitchener Ontario

I recently went on a day trip to visit St. Jacob's farmer's market.

I have wanted to go there for the longest time! It was an awesome day filled with lots of fun and of course many photos!

There were quite a few little quilt stores in the town and I picked up some cute fabric kits as well as a jelly roll, and some lace for the edges of a tree skirt that I'm going to make.

I was also able to find a new thimble for my collection !
It has the horse-drawn carriage on the front and says "St. Jacob's ON" on the opposite side.

What I've been up to!

Summer has been keeping me so busy and unfortunately I haven't had a lot of time to post Youtube tutorials or post to my blog much!

Here is a photo of a carpenter's star wall hanging that I recently made using some leftover fabrics from another batik quilt that I made about a year ago.

Aside from quilting, teaching my sewing summer camps and preparing for an upcoming craft show, I have been taking more and more cake decorating courses at my local Michaels, arts and crafts store.

Here are some photos of some flowers that I made recently in a "course four: advanced flowers and gumpaste" class.

On Friday July 19th I attended a cupcake couture class, where we learned some awesome techniques to make fancy fondant cupcakes. We were one student short, in order to be able to run the class, so my Dad volunteered to fill the spot and save the class so it wouldn't be cancelled! He doesn't have very much background in the ways of cake decorating, but he did very well and surprised all the ladies in the class!

Here are some close-up photos of three different techniques we learned in the class...I bet everyone can tell which one is my favourite....

This pink and white one is my favourite, because it is a "quilted" technique...how perfect is that?

New Patterns - Pine Needles by Mckenna Ryan

I recently picked up two new quilt patterns for appliquee wall hangings.

They're from the "Pine Needles" collection by Mckenna Ryan. I really love the general theme of her line!

Father's Day 2013

I hope everyone had a great day today, spending it with your families!

Last night I attempted to make cake pops for the first time...I had fun making them, but they probably could have been made better. Let's just say as a cake decorator, it was not my finest hour! LOL

If you look closely, you can see they spell out 'Happy Fathers Day'...

Dad enjoyed them and they tasted good, so that's all that matters!

Since the cake pops only used about half a box of cake mix, I found this neat recipe on Pinterest to make cake batter fudge, and it tastes amazing!

As for what I made my Daddy for Father's Day, I embroidered this towel for him. For those who don't know me well, my guinea pig's name is Pig. And I am obsessed with all things "pigs", so we (Pig and I) decided to embroider a pig on the towel. haha
I also made a chenille rug, and will post the photo after I have washed it.

Batik Belt

I recently created this fun belt using scraps of batik materials leftover from a quilt I made previously.

The pattern is inspired by one I saw in an issue of Quilter's Connection magazine, however I did not use or follow the instructions.

Batman-Themed Quilt

I gave the top of this quilt to my brother for his Birthday last September (it was a UFO for a while because I was trying to find the perfect fabric to be the backing!) I have finally finished quilting and binding it. Better late than never, right?

The photo below is my sample "Father's Day Pillowcase" that I am teaching in my classes right now! I also have kits available for sale (instructions included). This is a great gift and a fun project to teach someone young to sew, for them to give to Daddy, Grandpa or even an Uncle for Father's Day this year! If you're interested in ordering a kit, you can send me an E-mail at quliters.workshop@gmail.com, or leave a comment below!

Daytime Durham: Rogers Cable

As some of you may already know, this past Friday May 3rd I filmed two segments on the show Daytime Durham for Rogers Cable.
It was such an amazing experience and I met some great people at the studio! Filming was so much fun and I was really nervous but it turned out great! I should have the videos for the segments to post online and to my Youtube channel soon.

Until then, here are some pictures!

You can find more photos from my trunk show at the Mississauga Quilter's Guild meeting and from my TV debut at Rogers by visiting my Facebook page :)
